Outreach Health Programs

Community outreach programs is an important vehicle for reducing the discovery-delivery disconnect by bringing health education and Health screening services directly to community members. Such programs are consistent with the priority areas of Trinity Care Foundation initiatives for reducing health disparities.

Benefits of outreach services

1. Positive health outputs;

Outreach services can provide closer surveillance of the population, which would improve the continuum of care and make collecting, retrieving and disseminating heath information more efficient and comprehensive. This contributes to disease surveillance and to better health care management. The workload related to disease management can be better shared between front-line workers and backup teams.

2. Increasing access to health specialists in remote areas; Most developing countries lack specialists. This is particularly the case in remote or rural areas, where front-line health centres are very often staffed only with nurses. Outreach strategies can provide specialist visits to underserved populations.

3. Increasing quality of care and confidence in the health system Outreach services can also increase the quality of care provided in remote areas. Sharing experiences on practice and the transfer of technologies and know-how has a positive impact on the quality of care. Increased access to new technologies for diagnosis and treatment will also enhance the quality of care, by improving the reliability of results.

4. Time and cost saving for patients in remote areas Time and cost to access health facilities often constitute a major obstacle to seeking care. It is not uncommon for a patient to be obliged to allow one full day of travel in order to access a health structure. These indirect costs can be so high as to be catastrophic for the financial stability of a household.

5. Continuing education for health workers It is essential to build and strengthen health workers’ capacities in order for an effective health system to provide quality care. In underserved areas, it is often difficult for health workers to have access to continuing education: schools and training centres are mostly located in attractive areas, where the potential number of students is higher.

6. Mitigating health professionals’ feelings of isolation Feelings of isolation and loneliness are very common in remote areas, where health workers can be confronted with excessive workloads and have no peers with whom to share views on the difficulties they face. Feeling better at work increases the productivity and motivation of health workers, and helps retain them in remote areas.

NCDs Program

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) have now become the leading cause of mortality in India. The sustainable development goals set by the United Nations in 2015 call for a one-third reduction in premature mortality from non-communicable diseases by 2030 under one of its targets. These include cardiovascular diseases (CVD), chronic respiratory illnesses, cancer, oral health and diabetes.

According to the Global Burden of Disease, nearly a quarter (24.8 per cent) of all deaths in India is due to CVDs. The Union Government of India has only recently conferred increasing attention on CVD, with the initiation of the National Program for the Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases, and Stroke. To provide greater efficiency and equity in the delivery of health services, @trinitycarefoundation has announced its commitment to advance universal health coverage through its outreach health plans.

As part of management of NCDs, Trinity Care Foundation with CSR support from Dotdash Meredith India has initiated a public health project in a Government PHC in Ramanagara District, Karnataka with focus on  Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and Oral Health. This project has the potential to significantly reduce cardiovascular care and oral health disparities and improve community awareness for the marginalized.

Trinity Care Foundation has been actively supporting critical community health since 2007, You can support such public health projects as a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative for your company in association with us. Write to us (support@trinitycarefoundation.org) to connect.

Priority eye diseases – Cataract

Cataract

Definition
Cataract is clouding of the lens of the eye which prevents clear vision. Although most cases of cataract are related to the ageing process, occasionally children can be born with the condition, or a cataract may develop after eye injuries, inflammation, and some other eye diseases.

Free Eye Camp

Magnitude
According to the latest assessment, cataract is responsible for 51% of world blindness, which represents about 20 million people (2010). Although cataracts can be surgically removed, in many countries barriers exist that prevent patients to access surgery. Cataract remains the leading cause of blindness. As people in the world live longer, the number of people with cataract is anticipated to grow. Cataract is also an important cause of low vision in both developed and developing countries.

Prevention and treatment
Reduction of cigarette smoking and ultraviolet light exposure may prevent or delay the development of cataract. Diabetes mellitus and high body mass index are identified as additional risk factors.
The treatment of cataract is surgical and very successful in restoring sight. The opaque lens is removed and replaced by an artificial intraocular lens. In many remote parts of the developing world, people remain blind from cataract, due to a lack of access to eye care.

In general, These projects reach populations who are underserved or who have limited or no access to eye health care services. The program funds high-quality, sustainable projects that deliver eye care services, develop infrastructure, train personnel and/or provide rehabilitation and education in underserved communities.
You could start Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Initiatives for your Company in association with us. Such healthcare projects will make CSR contribution targeted, making them simple to execute as turnkey CSR projects. ‘Promoting healthcare’ is an area identified under schedule VII of the Companies Act 2013 that is eligible to receive CSR funding either directly or through an implementing agency that has a track record.
